The fourth edition of Sergipe Oil & Gas (SOG)—one of Brazil’s most important events in the oil and gas industry—kicked off this Wednesday, July 23, at the AM Malls Convention Center in Aracaju. Sergipe Gás S/A (Sergas) is one of the event sponsors and is participating with a booth dedicated to institutional and technical presentations, as well as strategic meetings with key industry players. One of the company’s main highlights this year is its plan to expand the gas pipeline network into the countryside, reinforcing its commitment to regional development.

During the event’s opening, Governor Fábio Mitidieri emphasized Sergas’ role in the state’s development and in building a more competitive future.
“Sergas is once again taking part in this major event—and this time, with special significance. Since last year, the state government has become the company’s majority shareholder. Our mission now is to expand gas distribution inland, discuss input costs, and explore ways to make gas more affordable for the population. An event like this gives us the chance to exchange experiences and deepen our understanding of the oil and gas value chain, with a focus on industrialization in the countryside,” he said.

Senator Laércio Oliveira, rapporteur of the new Gas Law—the regulatory framework that opened Brazil’s gas market—also highlighted Sergas’ strategic importance.“How could we talk about Sergipe Oil & Gas without mentioning Sergas? This company plays a fundamental role in Sergipe’s development. It has grown, modernized, and become a key player in the natural gas sector. I know every professional at Sergas is committed to driving the state’s progress, and I’m personally committed to this mission. Sergas will always be a great Sergipe-based company,” he said.

According to the Secretary of Economic Development and Science and Technology (Sedetec), Valmor Barbosa, the event reinforces Sergipe’s position in Brazil’s energy landscape. “We have nearly 120 speakers and a full schedule of lectures, presentations, and networking opportunities. Sergipe is fully integrated into this context, with a natural vocation for oil and gas. Strengthening Sergas is a strategic move, with the government increasing its stake and promoting the expansion of gas distribution to municipalities with demand, such as Lagarto, which is already supplied with CNG,” he stated.

Alan Lemos, CEO of Sergas, also celebrated the company’s new phase, marked by investments aimed at expanding the gas network into the countryside.
“For a long time, Sergas’ investments were concentrated in a few areas. Governor Fábio Mitidieri shifted that strategy, and now we are bringing natural gas to new locations like Lagarto. Our goal is to expand the service, create opportunities, and attract industries to the interior. Wherever gas arrives, development follows,” he said.

Sergas Program at SOG 2025

Sergas’ participation in SOG 2025 goes beyond the business fair. On Wednesday, Pablo Matsuo, Technical and Commercial Director, took part in a technical session discussing the inland expansion of natural gas in Sergipe using Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)—a logistical solution for supplying gas to areas not connected to the main pipeline network.

On Thursday, July 24, at 5 p.m., CEO Alan Lemos will be one of the speakers at the SOG Congress, presenting the panel titled “Natural Gas Market.” The session will also be moderated by Secretary Valmor Barbosa and will include representatives from other companies in the sector.

On Friday, July 25, at 4:30 p.m., the study “Biomethane Market in Sergipe” will be presented. This technical work was developed by Cibiogás Energias Renováveis in partnership with Sergas and the Sergipe Technology Park (SergipeTec). The study outlines pathways for harnessing renewable energy sources, expanding the possibilities for diversifying the state’s energy matrix.

Event Brings Together Key Players in the Energy Sector

SOG 2025 runs through Friday, featuring around 70 exhibiting brands in a large-scale business fair that boosts the local economy and strengthens partnerships. The program includes themed panels, technical lectures, site visits to gas treatment units and other parts of the production chain, as well as the ESG Arena, dedicated to discussions on sustainable practices in the sector.
