Sergipe holds national relevance in the oil and gas sector thanks to ongoing and planned investments by major companies such as Petrobras offshore, and Carmo Energy, Eneva, and TAG onshore. Job creation and significant financial contributions to the local economy set the tone for the opening speeches of Sergipe Oil & Gas (SOG25), which began this Wednesday (July 23) and continues through Friday (July 25) at the AM Malls Convention Center in Aracaju.
In his address to a packed auditorium, Governor Fábio Mitidieri expressed his desire to “transform the people through the state's natural wealth.” He also stated that Sergipe’s economy will grow even stronger with the start of gas exploration and the reactivation of certain decommissioned onshore and offshore platforms. “Sergipe is a small giant in Brazil’s energy matrix,” said the governor.
Priscila Felizola, Superintendent of Sebrae/SE, emphasized that the institution closely monitors the growth of onshore production, which already exceeds 13,000 barrels per day, “representing a local transformation opportunity.” She also noted that in 2024 alone, onshore royalties surpassed R$ 200 million for municipalities across Sergipe. Sebrae is involved in strengthening the Petrogás Network, an initiative that connects 25 institutions from the public, private, academic, and civil society sectors. To symbolize a new phase for the network, pins representing key links in the industry’s chain were presented to public and private sector leaders.
Partnership Agreements Signed
During the opening ceremony, two partnership agreements were signed between the Government of Sergipe and the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV). The first, through the Secretariat of Economic Development and Science and Technology, aims to conduct a technical feasibility study for the development of a new port terminal in the state. The agreement was signed by Governor Fábio Mitidieri, FGV Energia Executive Director Carlos Quintela, and Secretary Valmor Barbosa.
The second contract was signed between the state government, through the Public Services Regulatory Agency (Agrese), and FGV, with the objective of leveraging local technical and human resources for the decommissioning of offshore platforms along Sergipe’s coast. The agreement was signed by Governor Mitidieri, Agrese President Hamilton Santana, and Carlos Quintela, representing FGV.
