The useful life extension refers to the purpose of postponing the interruption of the production of a field. And it is suitable for fields where the reservoirs still have the capacity to exploit oil in an economically viable way or when the installation has important functions for the field.

 

Extend the useful life of offshore assets (platforms, semi-submersibles and FPSOs), decommission safely and efficiently, reduce the dynamic load on offshore operations and installations, certify the quality of structural projects and develop practical and innovative solutions for all these challenges in the world offshore, are the demands of the offshore market for the future. The main advantages of extending its useful life include: postponing the cost of decommissioning and extending project inputs by recovering more hydrocarbons.

 

Typically, oil field concession contracts have a 27-year term. Structures, systems, equipment and components are planned considering this time of operation, in the range of 25 to 30 years. Thus, there is a risk associated with the extension of useful life since the equipment may be operating outside the operational limits established in the project, thus increasing the risk of failures. Thus, there is uncertainty about the dangers associated with aging, obsolescence and degradation of equipment.

 

To discuss and develop the world's best practices, we will bring together key stakeholders, including operators, regulators, specialist companies, supply chain and industry experts to discuss some of the main challenges facing the industry today and how we can use our knowledge and experience to find innovative, economical and safe solutions for this very important subject of O&G activity.

 

Based on these principles, SOBENA promotes the 1st workshop on extending the useful life of platforms to be held on October 28, 2020 within the SOBENA Congress.
