With an address divided into five core themes, President Michel Temer highlighted the recovery of the Brazilian economy and the measures taken by the Brazilian government over the last 21 months to put the country back on track. "Invest in Brazil and you won't regret it," he said. Check out the main points of the speech below:

Responsibility

“When dealing with the crisis we inherited, we rejected false populist shortcuts. Populism had left us a fiscal crisis," he said. One of the main measures was the public spending ceiling, approved to control the country's public budget. "Only with our accounts in order can we have growth and employment," he added.

Dialogue

“To build the mission that has been bestowed upon us, we must know how to listen, persuade, aggregate, without intransigence," he stated. For the president, it is only through dialogue and unity between the branches of government and society that obstacles can be overcome.

Efficiency

Reduced red tape in public services, secondary education reform and the labour modernization law are examples of changes that helped make Brazil a better, more modern country. "The working modalities typical of contemporary reality now have a clear legal framework, protecting workers and giving legal certainty to employers," he said.

Rationality

"Investors find in Brazil today a country with a legal framework that is based on the reality of the market," Temer highlighted. As examples, the president cited the model adopted for the concession and privatisation of ports, airports, highways, railways and power transmission lines, the strengthening of regulatory agencies and the new rules for oil and gas auctions.

Openness

For the president, the isolationism of some countries must be tackled with more integration. "We know that protectionism is not the solution. When we close ourselves, we close ourselves to new technologies, new possibilities; we close ourselves to effective solutions to common problems," he said. Agreements between Mercosur countries, the negotiations with the Pacific Alliance nations, and Brazil's signing of the Paris Climate Agreement are all examples of Brazil's active work on the world stage.
