The average tariff for Natural Gas (NG) will be reduced by 4% in Mato Grosso do Sul starting from this Tuesday (01). The measure will be applied to all consumption segments, according to the Administrative and Financial Director of the Company, Bernadete Rangel, benefiting consumers in the residential, commercial, industrial, cogeneration, and automotive sectors. Regarding Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), it will be the second tariff incentive, as in addition to a reduction in the refueling pump tariff, the State Government has also reduced the ICMS (tax) on the fuel price from 17% to 12% within the package that also exempted conversion and inspection fees. However, the Gas Company is allowed to adopt differentiated tariffs considering the level, type, and consumption profile, but cannot exceed the average tariff, calculated based on the commodity purchase price and transport and distribution costs.
The 4% decrease in the tariff will make the use of Natural Gas even more attractive compared to other energy sources. "Consumers will enjoy a significant reduction in their bills, especially for traders and industries, allowing for greater savings and profitability," says the director. As a source that is leading the energy transition process, Natural Gas is considered one of the most viable supplies from an economic and environmental standpoint. Its supply is stable and continuous, contributing to long-term price stability. It is a reliable and predictable fuel, providing consumers with greater security.
Natural Gas is a cleaner energy option compared to other fossil fuels such as coal and oil. Its combustion results in significantly lower emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) and fewer atmospheric pollutants such as sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx). This contributes to reducing environmental impact and improving air quality. According to the engineering and technology area of MSGÁS, Natural Gas is an energy source that can be used in a wide range of applications, including heating and electricity generation, as well as in industrial production processes for furnace heating and material drying. It is also a cleaner alternative to traditional liquid fuels for vehicle refueling. The technicians also highlight its advantages in terms of equipment and system maintenance compared to other energy infrastructures.
