This marked the departure of the FPSO P-68, the first of two units to operate at the Iara field in the Santos Basin. The second is the P-70 which is expected to go live by 2020 and each platform has a capacity of 150,000 barrels of oil per day.
On January 12, 2018, Total acquired a 22.5% stake in Block BM-S-11A, where the Iara field is located, the acquisition is part of a strategic alliance with Petrobras, which is the operator with 42.5% in the field. Shell Brasil Petróleo 25% and Petrogal Brasil 10% also participate in the consortium.
"The first oil from the Iara field marks a new milestone for Total in Brazil. This increases our participation in the pre-salt area where the Total operated Lapa field is located and with the ongoing extended trials in the Mero field." said Arnaud Breuillac, president of exploration and production at Total.
