The UK government decided on Thursday (24) to add 10% ethanol to gasoline throughout its territory, starting in September this year. The measure opens discussion around the world: India should increase the use of ethanol to 20%, while in the USA the addition of ethanol should be increased to 15%. World authorities begin to follow the Brazilian example of this mixture, which starts in the tank and brings great benefits to the quality of the air and the consequent improvement in the population's breathing as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), especially in times of a pandemic that affects the respiratory system.

The E10 gasoline set for launch in September 2021 in the United Kingdom is an ecological mixture of gasoline and ethanol that could reduce CO2 emissions for transport by 750 thousand tons per year. The reduction in transport emissions equivalent to 350 thousand fewer cars on the roads.

The addition of the biofuel ethanol will occur at pumps across the country. The Kingdom already used 5% and now increases to 10%. The measure will guarantee the reactivation of plants and increase the number of jobs. This will reduce CO2 emissions and accelerate a country towards a greener transport future.

The introduction of E10 will increase job opportunities in the Northeast with the reopening of the biofuels factory will guarantee up to 100 jobs.

After consultation with drivers and industry, the introduction of E10 fuel, which is a mixture of gasoline and ethanol made from materials that include low-quality grains, sugars and wood waste, will boost the government's ambitions to reach zero until 2050.

Secretary of State for Transport Grant Shapps said: "We are going further and faster than ever to reduce emissions from our roads by clearing our air as we accelerate towards a zero-emission transport future. more drivers are driving electric vehicles, there are steps we can take to reduce emissions from millions of vehicles already driving on our roads, and this small shift to E10 gasoline will help drivers across the country to reduce the environmental impact of every trip ", he informed.

"The two gasoline blends that are widely available in the UK do not contain more than 5% ethanol, known as E5. The fuel that is being launched in September has up to 10%. Using bioethanol instead of traditional gasoline can reducing CO2 emissions and therefore increasing the ethanol content in gasoline can help us meet our climate change goals, "said Shapps.
