In December 2018, Brazil's oil and gas production totaled 3.406 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, with 2,691 million barrels of oil per day (bbl / d) and 114 million cubic meters of natural gas per day.

Oil production in the period increased by 4.8% compared to the previous month and 3% compared to December 2017. Natural gas production increased by 1.2% compared to the previous month and by 0, 3% compared to the same month in 2017.

2018 X 2017

Total oil production in 2018 was 944.1 million barrels, with a daily average of 2.586 million bbl / d. Decreased 1% in relation to oil production in 2017.

Total gas production in 2018 was 40.8 billion m³, with a daily average of 111 MMm³ / d. It increased by 1% in relation to natural gas production in 2017.

Pre-salt

Pre-salt production in December totaled 1,888 million boe / d, an increase of 3.9% over the previous month. 1.5 million barrels of oil per day and 61.5 million cubic meters of natural gas per day were produced through 85 wells. The pre-salt share in total national production in December was 55.4%.

The pre-salt wells are those whose production is carried out in the geological horizon called pre-salt, in fields located in the area defined in item IV of caput of article 2 of Law 12,351 / 2010.

Use of natural gas

The use of natural gas in Brazil in December reached 95.9% of the total volume produced. 57.8 million cubic meters per day were made available to the market.

Gas burning totaled 4.6 million cubic meters per day, an increase of 10.3% compared to the previous month and 20.2% compared to the same month in 2017. The main reason for the increase in the the continuation of the commissioning of the P-75 platform, operating in the Búzios field.

Producer Fields

The Lula field, in the Santos Basin, was the largest producer of oil and natural gas. It produced, on average, 897 thousand bbl / d of oil and 38.5 million m3 / d of natural gas. Marine fields produced 96% of oil and 83.7% of natural gas. The production occurred in 7,359 wells, being 711 seafarers and 6,648 terrestrial.

The fields operated by Petrobras produced 94.4% of the oil and natural gas.

Estreito, in the Potiguar Basin, had the largest number of producing wells: 1,124. Marlim Sul, in the Campos Basin, was the maritime field with the largest number of producing wells: 88.

The FPSO City of Maricá Platform, producing in the Lula field by means of five interconnected wells, produced 150,600 barrels per day and was the facility with the largest oil production. The Arara Azul production, producing in the fields of Arara Azul, Araracanga, Carapanaúba, Cupiúba, Urucu River and Southwest Urucu, by means of 39 interconnected wells, produced 7.9 million m3 / of the installation with the largest gas production Natural.

Other information

In December 2018, 309 concession areas, one onerous assignment area and five sharing areas, operated by 32 companies, were responsible for domestic production. Of these, 79 are maritime and 236 are terrestrial. Of the total of the producing areas, 13 are related to contracts of areas containing marginal accumulations.

The average API grade was 27.2, with 37.4% of the production considered light oil (> = 31 ° API), 49% medium oil (> = API and <31 API) and 13.6% heavy oil ( <22 API).

The mature terrestrial basins (fields / long-term tests of the Espírito Santo, Potiguar, Recôncavo, Sergipe and Alagoas basins) produced 112.7 thousand boe / d, of which 88.8 thousand bbl / d of oil and 3.8 million m3 / d of natural gas. Of this total, 106.6 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day were produced by Petrobras and 6,1 thousand boe / d for concessions not operated by Petrobras, with 365 boe / d in Alagoas, 3,183 boe / d in Bahia, 26 boe / d in Espírito Santo, 2342 boe / d in Rio Grande do Norte and 207 boe / d in Sergipe.
