A ANP (National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels) released yesterday (11/1) the Monthly Bulletin of Oil and Natural Gas Production for September 2023, presenting consolidated data of the national production. This month saw records in total production (oil + natural gas), as well as individual records for oil and natural gas, and specifically in pre-salt production.

A total of 4.666 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (MMboe/d) were produced, marking the highest overall production recorded, surpassing the previous record of July 2023, with 4.482 million MMboe/d.

Regarding oil, there were 3.672 million barrels per day (MMbbl/d), a 6.1% increase compared to the previous month and a 16.7% increase from September 2022. The previous highest recorded production was in July 2023: 3.513 MMbbl/d.

The production of natural gas in September reached 157.99 million cubic meters per day (MMm³/d), a 6.9% increase from the previous month and a 10.4% increase compared to September 2022. It also set a new record, surpassing July 2023's volume of 154.076 million cubic meters per day (MMm³/d).

Pre-Salt

The total production (oil + natural gas) in the pre-salt region in September was 3.594 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) and accounted for 77% of Brazil's production. This was the highest recorded, surpassing the production in July 2023, which extracted 3.359 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d). There was a 9.5% increase from the previous month and a 19.8% increase compared to the same month in 2022. 2.830 million barrels per day (bbl/d) of oil and 121.61 million cubic meters per day (m³/d) of natural gas were produced through 144 wells.

Utilization of Natural Gas

In September, the utilization of natural gas reached 97.9%. 55.18 million m³/d were made available to the market, and burning accounted for 3.35 million m³/d. There was an 11% decrease in burning compared to the previous month and a 6.1% increase compared to September 2022.

Production Origin

In July, offshore fields produced 97.6% of the oil and 87.2% of the natural gas. Fields operated by Petrobras, either alone or in consortium with other companies, were responsible for 89.02% of the total production. Production came from 6,284 wells, with 520 offshore and 5,764 onshore.

Fields and Installations

In September, the Tupi field, in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin, was the largest producer of oil and gas, recording 902.40 thousand bbl/d of oil and 44.32 million m³/d of natural gas. The installation with the highest production of oil and natural gas was the FPSO Guanabara in the shared deposit of Mero, with 179.340 thousand bbl/d of oil and 11.57 million m³/d of gas.

About the Oil and Natural Gas Production Bulletin

In addition to the traditional .pdf publication, it is possible to interactively access the bulletin's data using Business Intelligence (BI) technology. The tool allows users to change the reference month for information, select different periods for consultation, and apply specific filters for fields, states, and basins.

Variations in production are expected and can occur due to factors such as scheduled shutdowns of production units for maintenance, start-up of new wells, shutting down wells for maintenance or cleaning, or commissioning of new production units, among others. Such actions are typical in oil and natural gas production and aim for stable and continuous operations, as well as increased production over time.
