With the theme “Leadership, safety culture, and sustainability: pillars for strong independent producers”, ("Liderança, cultura de segurança e sustentabilidade: pilares para produtores independentes e fortes") the Brazilian Association of Independent Oil and Gas Producers (ABPIP) held the second edition of the SMS Oil & Gas event on September 11–12 in Salvador (BA).

The meeting brought together experts, regulatory agency representatives, business leaders, and professionals from across the independent oil and gas production chain for two days of discussions on operational safety, health, environment, and sustainability in the sector. Among the participants were Marcio Felix, President of ABPIP; Luiz Bispo and Alberto de Carvalho, representatives of the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP); and Aline Lobo, leader of the Sebrae Onshore Hub.

The first day featured four thematic panels and a session dedicated to Sustainability Cases, with debates on ensuring the availability and integrity of critical systems and equipment, monitoring and proper management of well integrity in operation or temporary abandonment, NR-01 – Occupational Safety and Health, and improving incident investigations while incorporating lessons learned into safety management systems.

On the second day, ABPIP’s SMS Committee meeting took place, along with a special lecture on “Safety culture and leadership responsibility”, delivered by Gilsa Monteiro, consultant in Process Safety, Human, and Organizational Factors.

According to Felix, SMS Oil & Gas plays a key role in the sector’s agenda. “This event reinforces the importance of promoting a space for dialogue and knowledge exchange to strengthen independent oil and gas producers, with a focus on safety, sustainability, and valuing a culture of prevention,” he said.

In its 2025 edition, ABPIP’s event was supported by the Sebrae Onshore Hub and sponsored by Enerflex and Superior Energy.
