ABS joins SEA\LNG, bringing decades of LNG experience and broadening the coalition’s efforts.

ABS, a leading provider of classification services to the global marine and offshore industries, was recently added as one of the newest partners to the SEA\LNG coalition. The objective of the coalition is to accelerate the widespread adoption of LNG as a marine fuel.

“ABS is pleased to be a part of SEA\LNG,” says ABS Chairman, President and CEO Christopher J. Wiernicki. “We bring to this organization more than 150 years of experience and a strong commitment to helping create a safer and more sustainable shipping industry. As a technology and innovation leader, ABS understands future energy demands and the environmental drivers of today’s dynamic markets and takes a forward-looking approach to helping balance those challenges with operational safety and performance needs.”

SEA\LNG brings together key players from across the supply chain, including shipping companies, classification societies, ports, major LNG suppliers, downstream companies, infrastructure providers and original equipment manufacturers to address market barriers and transform the use of LNG as a marine fuel. At the same time that ABS joins SEA/LNG, Keppel Offshore & Marine Gas Technology Development has also joined SEA\LNG as a new partner.

“We are delighted to welcome ABS to SEA\LNG,” says SEA\LNG Chairman Peter Keller. “ABS brings a wealth of industry expertise and perspectives that will greatly benefit SEA\LNG’s work to accelerate the widespread adoption of LNG as a marine fuel and promote its benefits as a clean, safe, practical and economically viable fuel for the shipping industry.”

Recognizing the changing landscape and increased industry focus on gas, ABS launched its Global Gas Solutions team in 2013 to support industry in developing gas-related projects. A pioneer in classification for the safe transport and handling of gas, ABS classed the world’s first LNG carrier conversion, the Methane Pioneer, in 1959 as well as the first newbuild LNG carrier, Methane Princess, in 1964 and has extensive experience with the full scope of gas-related assets, including many of the most advanced carriers in service. ABS is the industry leader in LNG carriers and in providing guidance as the use of LNG as fuel for marine applications expands.
