Brazil, with one of the longest coastlines in the world, concentrates critical operations in the Oil & Gas sector, ports and cargo terminals, and coastal industries. In such a dynamic environment, environmental accidents can occur at any time — ranging from oil and chemical spills to vessel-related incidents. Rapid and effective response is essential to prevent severe impacts on wildlife, ecosystems, and communities.

According to data from the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), 731 maritime accidents related to oil activities were recorded over the year, surpassing the 718 incidents reported in 2023. These figures highlight the need for specialized teams that are ready to respond promptly in order to minimize environmental impacts and protect lives.

In this context, Ambipar, a global leader in environmental solutions, carried out 600 prevention and response operations last year, preventing oil spills from reaching sensitive areas and mitigating risks associated with cargo movements ranging from 1,000 liters to 10 million liters of hydrocarbons.

“Readiness is what defines success in mitigating environmental impacts. We operate on a 24/7 basis, with 400 trained professionals and vessels distributed across 17 operational bases in nine states. This structure ensures that a response team reaches the emergency site within up to two hours after activation, ensuring a 100% success rate in our responses,” said Pablo Fonseca, Ambipar’s Maritime Response Leader.

Strategic operations in ports and maritime routes

Ambipar also plays a key role in port support operations, ensuring efficiency and safety. Services provided include:

  • Ship-to-ship (STS) operations for the safe transfer of hazardous products, such as fuels;

  • Handling of fenders and hoses;

  • Mooring and unmooring of vessels.

To reduce environmental risks, the company carries out preventive containment using oil booms and on-site monitoring, always in compliance with port and environmental regulations. This approach contributes to operational continuity and reduces environmental impacts at terminals.

In dredging support operations, Ambipar provides vessels and equipment for bathymetric surveys, as well as environmental standby services during activities, with resources such as oil and water recovery systems (skimmers), temporary storage tanks, drones, and containment booms. In 2025 alone, more than 4,000 operational hours were dedicated to ensuring dredging activities were carried out with minimal environmental impact.

With more than 2,000 monthly port support operations and a presence in over 10 ports and navigation channels, Ambipar reinforces its role as a strategic partner for the safety and efficiency of Brazilian maritime logistics.

“Investing in specialized teams is not just an operational matter — it is a commitment to sustainability and the continuity of economic activities. In a country where maritime logistics are vital, investing in readiness and technology means investing in the future,” Fonseca added.
