The largest pipeline logistics operator in Latin America, Transpetro has been increasingly investing in social responsibility to strengthen ties with the communities where it operates while also meeting business objectives such as ensuring pipeline integrity and building trust with neighboring populations around its 48 terminals. By the end of 2025, the company will invest R$ 16 million in community gardens, leisure areas, and agreements for professional training.

The strategy was presented today (Sept. 9) by company president Sérgio Bacci (photo) during his participation in the CEO Talks at Rio Pipeline 2025, the largest pipeline event in Latin America.

The projected amount for social responsibility initiatives this year represents an increase of more than 165% compared to 2024. Last year, Transpetro allocated about R$ 6 million to projects that directly and indirectly benefited approximately 70,000 people across the country.

In addition to expanding social impact, the community-centered approach has helped preserve the integrity of pipeline logistics operations. In every social responsibility initiative, communities are educated on the importance of fuel transportation by pipeline and are informed about the company’s direct communication channel, phone number 168.

“This year, our goal is to reach R$ 16 million in community investments. We believe these initiatives are essential for the sustainability of our business. We want to take care of those living near our operations, because they are allies in safeguarding the integrity of our assets,” emphasized Bacci.

The Transpetro president added that neighbors of the pipeline corridors are the first to report suspicious activity. “By bringing social investments to these communities, we create a powerful alliance in maintaining the integrity of our assets,” he said.

Community engagement initiatives
Community engagement projects have included building sports complexes, leisure areas, and community gardens. In 2025, the goal is to expand the impact with actions in 45 communities. Additionally, agreements with educational institutions through the Transformar program have already offered more than 800 professional training opportunities this year, with the potential to serve up to 3,000 people directly in the coming years.

“We always seek to place people at the center of our decisions. We believe it is possible to achieve the company’s financial growth while also supporting the economic and social development of Brazilians, bringing communities near our assets closer to us. These projects we are developing have been building meaningful ties between people and our brand,” added Bacci.

Partnership with communities
Strengthening ties with local communities has yielded concrete results in combating oil and fuel theft from pipelines — a crime that has victimized Transpetro. Over the past five years, the company has reduced such incidents by about 90%, from 201 cases in 2020 to just 25 last year.

This has been possible thanks to an integrated approach that combines community engagement, remote monitoring through the company’s National Control and Logistics Center (CNCL), and partnerships with public security agencies. On average, Transpetro invests R$ 100 million per year in pipeline security.

In addition to promoting organized use of pipeline corridors, Transpetro invests in educational initiatives with communities and encourages reporting through its dedicated 168 hotline — a free, confidential, 24/7 communication channel for the public.
