The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) will provide additional financing for the company Albioma Codora Energia to implement a biogas production line at the cogeneration plant in Goianésia/GO. The supplementation operation, in the amount of up to R$ 11.8 million, together with the original financing of R$ 13.3 million, will increase the generation of biogas from the use of vinasse, which is the product from the liquor fermentation of sugar cane alcohol. The modernization of the plant takes place within the scope of the Finem Fundo Clima, with the Bank's resources representing 83% of the project's total investment (R$ 30.4 million).

Albioma Codora started producing energy from sugarcane bagasse in 2011, and in 2015 it incorporated the use of straw in the process. With the project, vinasse becomes another input for power generation. The project is expected to increase energy exports at the Goianésia plant by 22 GWh, with total production expected to reach 200 GWh without increasing installed capacity. The supplementary energy will be destined to the regulated and free markets.

The production of electricity and biomethane is considered clean energy, as it reduces the emission of organic methane and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The low climate impact makes the activity of processing waste profitable. Biomethane emits 85% less greenhouse gases than diesel, for example. This makes this biofuel have one of the lowest carbon footprints, which positions it as an important product in the new sustainable energy matrix.

The operation financed by BNDES includes specialized technical services, civil works and installations. Actions will be carried out such as earthworks, excavation of tanks for vinasse, construction of a building, street layout and bases for installations. The equipment, in turn, includes supply and recirculation pumps, dryer, biogas burner, laboratory items, flare, foam separator, valves, among others.
