The Farol de São Tomé Heliport, located in Campos dos Goytacazes (RJ), inaugurated on Monday a new hangar that will host operations for CHC Helicopter, a global leader in crew transportation and search and rescue operations. Managed by Infra Operações Aeroportuárias since 2021, the heliport has been consolidating its position as the leading support base for offshore air transport in Brazil. The ceremony was attended by civil and military authorities, as well as clients and suppliers, highlighting the importance of this operation for the regional economy.

With CHC’s arrival, the heliport now hosts two Sikorsky S-92A helicopters. The operational transition is underway - the first aircraft began operations in July and the second will start flying in September. The new hangar boosts CHC’s flight capacity in Brazil by 27%, supporting the safe transport of approximately 6,000 passengers each month to and from offshore operations.

For Louzival Mascarenhas Junior, CEO of INFRA Aeroportos, CHC’s arrival marks a milestone for Campos and the offshore sector:

“Welcoming CHC to the Farol de São Tomé Heliport is not just about expanding operations—it’s about bringing a global partner to the city, with international standards of safety and excellence. This partnership enhances our daily efficiency, brings predictability to operations, and strengthens the entire regional service chain. We will continue investing in infrastructure and management to support this growth responsibly and deliver results for the city,” he emphasized.

According to Gilson Caputo, Executive Director of CHC in Brazil, the proximity to the Campos Basin oil fields was a decisive factor in choosing the base. He also highlighted CHC’s current growth in the country:

“With the start of operations of our second aircraft in Farol, we now have 15 active contracts, and another four are set to begin by the end of the year. The inauguration of this hangar marks the opening of our fourth base in Brazil, in an expansion supported by Infra and the entire Farol de São Tomé team. We are proud to contribute to job creation and investment in the northern region of Rio de Janeiro while maintaining our commitment to high operational availability and safety as an absolute priority,” he said.

With over 75 years of experience, presence on six continents, and over 100 aircraft in operation, CHC serves the oil and gas, air medical transport, search and rescue, and government services sectors. In Brazil, the company has been increasing its investments since 2022 and expects to end 2025 with a fleet of 23 helicopters, focusing on the Campos and Santos Basins.
