The opening of the 32nd edition of Fenasucro & Agrocana brought together, this Tuesday (11), political authorities and agribusiness leaders in a ceremony that highlighted Brazil's potential to lead the global energy transition. The event took place at the Zanini Events Center, in Sertãozinho (SP).

In attendance were the Governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas; São Paulo's State Secretary of Agriculture, Geraldo Melo Filho; the Mayor of Sertãozinho, Zezinho Gimenez; the President of Fenasucro & Agrocana, Paulo Montabone; the honorary president of this edition and President of the National Bioenergy Union (UDOP), Hugo Cagno Filho; Antônio Eduardo Tonielo, emeritus president of the fair; Rosana Amadeu, President of Ceise Br; among other authorities and leaders.

During the ceremony, the governor highlighted the diversity of renewable sources available in the country and the opportunities opened up by the decarbonization of different modes of transport.

"One of Brazil's vocations is the energy transition. Major shipping companies will use biobunker (marine fuel blended with renewable sources), which is far more sustainable, and ethanol to power ships. In aviation, SAF will also become a reality, and our sugarcane will play a fundamental role. In São Paulo, biomethane is already starting to reach regions such as Ribeirão Preto and to replace fuels in vehicle fleets. We will have heavy-duty vehicles running on biomethane, and São Paulo will move forward in leading this transformation," said Tarcísio.

The director of Fenasucro & Agrocana, Paulo Montabone, emphasized Sertãozinho's position as a hub for technological development for the sugarcane-energy chain and the fair's ability to project Brazilian solutions onto the international market.

"The opportunity for Brazil to remain a benchmark in the global energy transition, starting from Sertãozinho, has never been so evident. With more than 600 brands on display and the presence of more than 80 countries, the fair will show the world that it is here that sugarcane-energy technology capable of increasing Brazil's share in this process is born. We need to value this national heritage, export our technologies and encourage the use of ethanol, a product made in Brazil that generates income and spreads knowledge," he stated.

Honorary president of this edition of Fenasucro & Agrocana and President of the National Bioenergy Union (UDOP), Hugo Cagno Filho said that the energy transition is already part of the decisions of governments, companies and markets.

"The energy transition has ceased to be a promise and become a reality. Few production chains are as prepared to respond to this challenge as Brazilian bioenergy. It is a sector that creates jobs, promotes regional development, invests in innovation and strengthens Brazil's position on the global decarbonization agenda. Ethanol, bioelectricity, biogas, biomethane, biobunker and sustainable aviation fuel show that our plants have evolved into true biorefineries. The growing international interest in biofuels confirms that the path chosen by Brazil is the right one," concluded Cagno.

First-day program

Sustainability was among the themes of the fair's first day. In a panel promoted by Canaoeste, experts from the organization presented initiatives that combine cost reduction, production efficiency and environmental preservation.

The panel "Ethanol in Maritime Shipping: The Future Has Arrived" discussed the potential of Brazilian ethanol as an alternative for decarbonization. Plínio Nastari, CEO of DATAGRO, highlighted that the maritime sector could represent a potential market of 225 million tons, more than twice the current global ethanol production, estimated at 100 million tons.

In addition, Copersucar presented a test with a cargo ship capable of using ethanol instead of e-methanol and showed how it has been incorporating biofuels into its logistics, with 74 biomethane-powered trucks transporting sugar to the Port of Santos.

The advancement of sustainable aviation fuel also gained ground with the panel "Why Brazil's SAF market may be closer than you think", which presented prospects and opportunities for the development of this segment in the country.

Fenasucro & Agrocana's program continues this Wednesday, the 12th, with FenaBio panels and debates, as well as the exhibition of technologies and business opportunities for the bioenergy chain.
