The Tupi Pilot, the first definitive pre-salt production system in the Santos Basin, completed ten years of operation in October. With its platform anchored in a water depth of 2,149 meters, the system has the capacity to produce up to 100 thousand barrels of oil per day and process up to five million cubic meters of gas, through six producing wells, a gas injector well. and three water injector wells.

Tupi is currently the largest deepwater oil producing field in the world. In these ten years, the accumulated production operated by Petrobras in the Tupi Pilot was 264 million barrels of oil and 11.8 billion m3 of gas, totaling 338 million barrels of oil equivalent of oil and gas.

The 3-RJS-646 well has been operating in this system practically since the beginning and has the highest accumulated production among the wells operated by the company, of around 90 million barrels of oil equivalent. Currently, it still produces approximately 20 thousand barrels per day. Three of the 20 wells with the highest accumulated production from Petrobras produce for this system.

Importance for pre-salt development

The production system of the Piloto de Tupi was responsible for collecting fundamental technical information for the development of the large accumulations of oil discovered in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin. In this first system, most of the technologies that made production possible in challenging pre-salt conditions were implemented and today represent an important legacy for the oil industry. These technologies guaranteed Petrobras the 2015 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) award.

The Tupi field is predominantly located in the BM-S-11 concession, operated by Petrobras (65%), in partnership with Shell Brasil Petróleo Ltda (25%) and Petrogal Brasil S.A. (10%).
