In June, the average price of gasoline in Brazil fell by 0.78% compared to May, reaching R$ 6.38. This R$ 0.05 reduction was smaller than the R$ 0.17 (-5.6%) cut announced by Petrobras at the beginning of the month. Ethanol prices also declined during the same period, dropping 1.35% to an average of R$ 4.39.

These figures come from the latest analysis by the Edenred Ticket Log Price Index (IPTL), which compiles fuel price behavior based on transactions at fuel stations, providing a reliable national average.

“Even with the 5.6% adjustment announced by Petrobras at the beginning of the month, gasoline prices at the pump only dropped 0.78%. This shows that the reduction passed on to consumers was much smaller, likely due to competition among gas stations and regional distribution dynamics. Ethanol prices continued to fall, which has encouraged its use in certain parts of the country, as shown in the IPTL,” explains Renato Mascarenhas, Director of Operations and Business Transformation at Edenred Mobility.

Regional Overview
The lowest average prices for both fuels were seen in the Southeast region: R$ 4.26 for ethanol and R$ 6.22 for gasoline. The highest averages were again observed in the North region: R$ 5.21 for ethanol and R$ 6.85 for gasoline.

Only the Northeast region did not register a drop in average prices for both fuels in June: ethanol rose 0.40%, reaching an average of R$ 5.01, while gasoline maintained the same price as in May, at R$ 6.50.
The biggest ethanol drop occurred in the Southeast, with a 1.62% decrease, while gasoline saw its sharpest decline in the South, down 1.25%.

State-by-State Highlights
Ethanol saw its highest increase during the period in Rondônia, where it rose 2.15% to R$ 5.22. São Paulo recorded the lowest average ethanol price at R$ 4.12, following a 1.90% decrease. The biggest ethanol drop was in Amapá, with a 5.16% reduction, bringing the price to R$ 5.51 — still the most expensive ethanol in the country for the period.

For gasoline, Bahia saw the highest increase, up 1.26% to an average of R$ 6.45. The largest drop occurred in the Federal District, where prices fell 1.61% to R$ 6.71. São Paulo recorded the lowest gasoline price, at R$ 6.16, after a 1.12% decrease compared to May. Despite a 1.05% drop, Acre remained the state with the highest gasoline price, at R$ 7.52.

“Gasoline proved to be the most economically advantageous option in most Brazilian states in June, especially in the Northeast, South, and North regions. However, it’s important to highlight that ethanol offers greater environmental benefits, as it emits fewer pollutants and contributes to more sustainable, low-carbon mobility,” Mascarenhas emphasizes.
