The first edition of the International Brazil Energy Meeting (iBEM25) has officially begun. This international event takes place over three days, from March 25 to 27, at the Salvador Convention Center. With the slogan of being the only event that brings together all energy sectors of Brazil under one roof, iBEM is set to welcome representatives from at least 20 countries and an estimated audience of 6,000 visitors by the event's conclusion.

Organized by Austral, Brain Marketing, and Eolus, companies known for their excellence and expertise in hosting energy sector events, iBEM is drawing national and international players, business and government delegations, and national exhibitors. The event’s business matchmaking sessions alone are expected to generate around R$ 250 million, in addition to commercial agreements made in other areas of the exhibition.

Innovation, Idea Promotion, and Product Development

At the One Energy Plenary opening session, Nicolás Honorato, CEO of Austral (pictured), emphasized the event's scale and potential.

"We have seven or eight different plenary sessions within this space, divided between the north and south wings. We have two main plenaries where we will address strategic topics in the energy sector. Additionally, we are introducing a scientific congress, something never done before, where results will be officially published at the end of the event. This congress brings researchers from various countries who will be presenting over the next few days," Nicolás explained.

For this first edition, iBEM also introduced a technical session featuring operational and maintenance activities for various energy sources, showcasing best practices and sharing insights with the market.

"We have an ESG arena dedicated to environmental and social issues, which are extremely important to us. We also have an innovation arena, as this event is heavily focused on innovation and technology. We aim to promote start-ups, encourage new ideas, and develop products and services for various energy sectors," Nicolás added.

Sustainable Growth and Wind Energy

Ângelo Almeida, Secretary of Economic Development of the State of Bahia, also attended the iBEM opening, highlighting its importance in Brazil’s energy market.

"Bahia welcomes more than 20 countries here today, with representatives from both the public and private sectors, including investors, technology experts, and innovators discussing this critical topic. Brazil is a country with a capacity for energy self-sufficiency, and we must maximize this potential. Now is the time to seize this opportunity, strengthening and equipping our state and the Northeast region to ensure sustainable growth through events like this," he emphasized.

One of the key highlights of iBEM’s first day was the All Energy Plenary, which focused on renewable energy initiatives and discussions. Ben Backwell, CEO of the Global Wind Energy Council, analyzed the growth of the wind energy market in Brazil.

"Brazil's wind energy market has been a huge success, growing rapidly over the past 15 years to become the 4th largest in the world in terms of installed capacity. More importantly, Brazil has established a significant domestic turbine manufacturing industry. Right now, the market is facing some short-term demand challenges, but over the coming years, demand is expected to return very strongly," he assessed.
