On Wednesday (10), the IBP booth hosted one of the most well-attended debates of its program: the panel “Women in Operations: Female Leadership in Midstream,” moderated by Carla Diniz (NTS) and featuring Camila Faria (TAG) and Keurrie Cipriano (Transpetro) in a conversation about career paths, challenges, and achievements of women in a sector historically dominated by men. The session was opened by Carolina Abreu, from IBP’s Sustainability area, who highlighted the importance of creating spaces to give visibility to inspiring women in the oil and gas industry.

Moderated by Carla Diniz, the panel brought data on women’s presence in technical and leadership roles in the sector, showing gradual progress — such as the increase in the number of female engineers and examples of companies where women now represent over 40% of the workforce. According to Carla, the goal of the session was to inspire young professionals and encourage the creation of a support network among women in the industry.

Sharing their journeys, Camila Faria described how her passion for operations began during her internship and grew with the dynamism of the gas transportation sector, where every day brings a new learning experience. Keurrie Cipriano recalled the challenges of once being the only woman in leadership positions and emphasized the importance of occupying decision-making spaces, facing resistance, and breaking down prejudice. Both reinforced the role of gender equity policies, mentorship programs, and the strengthening of support networks as key factors for more women to advance in their careers.

The discussion also touched on topics such as motherhood and career, underscoring the need for companies to respect and support women’s choices at every stage of their professional lives. For the participants, breaking unconscious biases and amplifying women’s voices are essential to ensure that female presence in operations continues to grow and transform the industry’s culture.

The Importance of Women’s Inclusion in the O&G Sector

Women’s presence in Brazil’s oil and gas industry remains limited, but the landscape is changing through structured initiatives by major companies. In this predominantly male sector, gender equity challenges are particularly evident in leadership roles: recent data show that only 1% of CEOs are women and that just 16% of positions in national companies are held by them. However, research indicates that organizations with greater gender diversity deliver better financial performance, greater resilience, and higher capacity for innovation.

To move forward, it is essential to guarantee women’s full participation at all decision-making levels, from hiring to executive positions. Training programs, affirmative recruitment policies, pay equity, nursing rooms, appropriate locker rooms, and gender-specific PPE are examples of measures that help create a more inclusive work environment. In addition, harassment reporting channels ensure safety and strengthen corporate ethics.

Through its Gender Working Group, IBP has been promoting research and practices to increase women’s representation in the sector. Actions such as defining inclusion targets, mentorships, activating support networks, and raising awareness about unconscious bias help to build a fairer workplace, foster inspiring careers for women, and strengthen the social and economic sustainability of Brazil’s oil and gas industry.

In addition, IBP leverages its major events to promote debates on diversity and gender equity, encouraging women to support each other and to engage actively in the sector. UnIBP, the Institute’s Corporate University, also offers mentoring and development programs, creating concrete opportunities for women to grow and thrive in an industry that still faces gender equity challenges.
