The proposal will allow the use of all electric technology on oil platforms, enabling optimized energy generation

The National Environment Council (Conama) approved, at a meeting held this Tuesday (10/8), a proposal for the applicability of Conama Resolution No. 382/2006 to oil platforms requested by the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME). Resolution No. 382 deals with the establishment of maximum limits for the emission of atmospheric pollutants for fixed sources, as per Annex V.

The proposal to change the resolution will allow the use of all electric technology on oil platforms, enabling centralized generation in a single point in an optimized way, distributing energy to other equipment. With that, less amount of fuel is used and, consequently, there is less emission.

Since 2006, when the resolution was published, the offshore oil and gas industry in Brazil has undergone major changes due to the discovery of the pre-salt. As a result, exploration is further away from the coast and production volumes have shown significant increases, requiring more energy efficiency.

Recent evidence indicates that the 100% electrified plant reduces emissions by 20%. Therefore, it is an important measure for the fulfillment of sustainability commitments and for the competitiveness of the Brazilian oil and gas sector.

"The MME reinforces its commitment to the environmental agenda, materialized in medium and long-term planning instruments and in the coherence between policies and regulation, observing all the characteristics of renewability and diversity of the Brazilian energy matrix", stated the executive secretary Deputy of the MME, Bruno Eustáquio.
