Law 14,134, New Gas Law, published today (9/4), makes a broad revision of the legal framework in favor of the formation of an open, dynamic and competitive natural gas market. In this line, it also aims to promote competition between suppliers and the consequent reduction in the final price of natural gas for the consumer. The new law establishes rules for the exploitation of the economic activities of transporting natural gas through pipelines and for the import and export of natural gas, as well as for the exploitation of the activities of disposal, treatment, processing, underground storage, conditioning, liquefaction, regasification and commercialization of natural gas. These economic activities will be regulated and supervised by the ANP and may be carried out by a company or consortium of companies incorporated under Brazilian law, with headquarters and administration in the country.
