As a public concessionaire for natural gas distribution in Santa Catarina, SCGÁS has historically sought to expand the natural gas market to new regions of the state. In addition to investments in the coastal region, which concentrates the largest consumption volumes in our state, the Company has also invested in the interiorization of the distribution infrastructure.

With more than 1,200 km of network, SCGÁS serves 64 municipalities. There are more than 16 thousand direct customers consuming natural gas, from the industrial (82% of the volume), vehicular (16% - the CNG fleet in SC is more than 105 thousand vehicles), commercial and residential (2%).

The last decade was marked by the advantage in tariffs, which has remained the lowest in the country in Santa Catarina for more than seven years. “The competitiveness of SCGÁS's natural gas has provided favorable conditions for the Santa Catarina market on the national scene. The price and the offer are decisive factors to attract new investments and expand the current ventures ”, says SCGÁS president, Willian Anderson Lehmkuhl.

In order to meet the demand for new points of consumption efficiently, SCGÁS improved and accelerated the processes for connecting new customers. In 2020 alone, for example, more than 1,000 customers were connected to the distribution network in the various consumer segments.

In the area of infrastructure, the company has been executing since 2013 one of the largest natural gas network projects developed in the country: Serra Catarinense covers 16 cities, with more than 230 km of network, from Indaial to Lages. Today the chain is in Rio do Sul and there is a new stretch of works up to Pouso Redondo in execution.

In February, the Company launched its largest package of works since its foundation: from 2020 to 2024 the company will invest more than R $ 410 million, with the goal of doubling the number of customers in the period and implementing more than 400 km of distribution, with 16 new cities served.

In addition, the company recently started supplying Lages through an innovative project with local and isolated networks. In the horizon of planned investments with this same model, SCGÁS intends to supply Canoinhas and Três Barras in Planalto Norte Santa Catarina and is studying options for the West and Midwest of Santa Catarina.

Consumption

The months of June, July and August showed a strong reaction of consumption and even with the pandemic the company delivers volumes very close to the pre-crisis period, which requires short, medium and long term solutions to the supply issue, either through the infrastructure current transportation or new modes. The Company is now looking for other supply alternatives to further expand its offer to the Santa Catarina market.

Recent customer demands with volumes of over 140 thousand cubic meters of gas in the short term and 100 thousand in the medium term, reinforce the need to overcome current supply limitations through new supply alternatives. This demand from the supplied market adds to the important reaction of the CNG market in the last two years and with the new cities and markets that are now being served with the arrival of new distribution networks.
