Nordic Energy reported Monday that it has applied for a new exploration and production license in the Danish North Sea. The application for eight offshore blocks, comprising and area of 670 square miles, is designed increase the company's exposure to what it described as a "highly prospective exploration area".
Nordic already holds the 1/13 license, which is the largest exploration and production license in the Danish North Sea and covers an area of 1,390 square miles. This license is located approximately 30 miles from the edge of the Central Graven, where existing production and several discoveries are located. The new blocks that Nordic is applying for are located directly adjacent to the 1/13 license.
Commenting on the application in a company statement, Nordic CEO Rudolf Kleiber said:
"Since the acquisition of Licence 1/13 in the Danish North Sea in September last year, we have been evaluating the existing data over the licence area and believe this area to be highly prospective with several different play types and potential reservoir levels. As the company continues to explore the potential in Licence 1/13, the directors believe the acquisition of the adjacent blocks will expand Nordic's high potential licence portfolio."
