Aligned with ESG practices, the company strengthens its position as a supplier of steel pipes with the lowest CO2 equivalent emissions in the market.
T&B Petroleum/Press OfficeVallourec, one of the world leaders in premium tubular solutions, is present at ROG.e 2024, showcasing innovative and smart tubular solutions for energy markets. Until Thursday (23rd), the company is demonstrating, at its booth in the Olympic Boulevard, how it is pioneering the energy transition, supporting its customers in their energy transition activities, and helping to define new standards for the industry.
Through a series of innovative technologies across its entire production chain, the company has been strengthening its commitment to the environment. As a result, it produces seamless steel pipes with the lowest equivalent carbon dioxide (CO2e) emissions on the market. For instance, Vallourec's pipe production process generates 1.27 tons of CO2e per ton of steel—about 30% less than the industry average of 1.91 tons of CO2e, according to the Worldsteel Association.
For decades, Vallourec has invested in technologies and processes to develop alternatives to non-renewable energy sources, contributing to achieving these sustainable results. One of these initiatives is Carboval, a continuous carbonization technology for charcoal production, created and patented by Vallourec, which has great potential to revolutionize the energy sector. Carboval reduces the transformation cycle of raw material from 16 days to 16 hours, without methane emissions and utilizing about 95% of the energy contained in the wood.
"Vallourec plays a strategic role in supplying essential sectors of the Brazilian and global economy. The Group's global goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2025 was achieved ahead of schedule. Now, we aim to reduce emissions by another 30% by 2030. With a selection of pioneering solutions, developed from the sustainable use of natural resources, we are contributing to improving our customers' performance in terms of sustainability in their businesses," emphasizes André Lacerda, Senior Vice President for the South America Tubes Segment.
Rodrigo Rennó, Commercial Director of Vallourec South America, highlights that seamless steel pipes with the lowest carbon footprint on the market are a differentiator, for instance, for operators in offshore production in the Brazilian pre-salt and other markets in South America and worldwide, as they contribute to a cleaner production chain.
Through its portfolio of energy transition solutions, Vallourec® New Energies, the company also supports its clients in researching and developing low-carbon solutions in segments such as geothermal, solar, carbon capture, hydrogen, and biomass. "Vallourec® New Energies reinforces our ambition to be fully integrated into the low-carbon economy," Rennó adds.
Vallourec presents innovations at ROG.e
Among the products and solutions Vallourec will showcase at the event, visitors can learn about Submagnetic Freeflow®, developed and patented by the company, which uses magnetic force to prevent scaling in oil well production tubing. This innovation reduces the environmental impact of operations by avoiding acid injection for cleaning the tubing and prevents production downtime for maintenance procedures, eliminating the high costs associated with the process.
The booth will also feature Delphy, an underground hydrogen vertical storage system capable of storing up to 100 tons of hydrogen gas under maximum safety conditions, using tubes and fittings with extensively tested and validated sealing and corrosion-resistant technology.
Vallourec's booth is located at Warehouse 5, F17.
