From October 27 to 29, Petrobras took part in the Brazilian Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), at the Riocentro convention center in Rio de Janeiro. During the event, Petrobras engineer Antonio Carlos Capeleiro Pinto received an OTC Distinguished Achievement Award for Individuals. The award ceremony was held on Wednesday, October 28, during the topical luncheon “Brazilian pre-salt development and technological innovation in Petrobras’ ultra-deep water projects,” presented by the company’s exploration and production director, Solange Guedes.

The Distinguished Achievement Award for Individuals, given for the first time at OTC Brazil, is the highest honor bestowed by OTC, and it is a traditional fixture of editions of the event held in other countries. Antonio Capeleiro was awarded due to his contribution to technical and managerial development for deep water and ultra-deep water oil fields. He is a specialist in Petrobras’ offshore field reservoir engineering and development plan design area, and for the last nine years he has worked in pre-salt areas in Santos Basin. This is the second time that a Petrobras employee has received the award. In 2007, another engineer, Marcos Assayag, won it for his contribution to the offshore industry through his efforts to develop and promote technologies for deep water oil and gas production, leading to important innovations in the development of offshore technological resources, especially for Marlim field, through Petrobras’ Deep Water Technology Program, Procap.

Subsea 7 also received an award in the Corporate category for its Buoy-Supported Risers project, developed in partnership with Petrobras. BSR technology is an innovative system involving a submerged buoy that isolates the movement of rigid risers (pipelines) from the movements of platforms installed in ultra-deep waters, thereby reducing wear and tear and so extending their lifespan.

Also on Wednesday, October 28, Petrobras’ executive manager for the Libra area, Anelise Lara, took part in a special session called “Leadership Summit: The Role of Professional Societies in Integrating Multidisciplinary Technologies.” Another highlight of the day was a panel discussion called “Pre-Salt – The First 1 Million Barrels of Oil Equivalent per Day,” which included technicians and executives from Petrobras’ Exploration and Production area, starting at 2 pm.

On Thursday, October 29, Anelise Lara talked about the new generation of pre-salt projects, based on the example of Libra, during a panel discussion called “Libra and the Next Generation of Pre-Salt Projects.”

For the first time, this edition of OTC Brazil also presented “University R&D Showcase,” a space featuring representatives of 11 Brazilian universities and research centers, who displayed technologies being developed by the industry. During the three-day event, more than 190 technical papers were presented and there were 39 technical discussions, 12 panel discussions and four topical luncheons.
