Petrobras announced yesterday (15) increases of R $ 0.10 (3.7%) in the price of diesel and R $ 0.05 (1.9%) in the price of gasoline. The values will be readjusted as of tomorrow at the state-owned refineries, where the liter of diesel will cost R $ 2.76, and gasoline, R $ 2.64.

The last change in fuel prices occurred last Saturday, when Petrobras had announced a reduction of R $ 0.08 in the price of diesel and kept the price of gasoline at R $ 2.59.

Petrobras' price readjustments follow variations in the value of fuels and the dollar in the international market. As a result, price increases or decreases occur without a defined periodicity, which, according to the state-owned company, allows it to compete in a more efficient and flexible way.

Since the beginning of the year, prices have accumulated high both for gasoline, which ended 2020 sold at R $ 1.84 at Petrobras refineries, and for diesel, which was traded at around R $ 2 per liter.

Petrobras claims that the prices charged by its refineries have "limited influence" on what is charged to the final consumers of these fuels. This is because the amount paid at the pump at the service stations is increased by federal and state taxes, costs for the acquisition and mandatory mixing of biofuels, in addition to the gross margins of the distribution companies and the service stations that sell fuel.
