Return of the operation of Araucária Nitrogenados (ANSA) must be guided by the board of directors and the Board of Directors
Petrobras AgencyOn a visit to the Getúlio Vargas Refinery (REPAR) and ANSA, Petrobras units in Paraná, this Monday (08/14), the company's president, Jean Paul Prates, said that the resumption of production is in the final stage of studies of fertilizers at Araucária Nitrogenados (ANSA), a subsidiary of Petrobras.
After completion of the technical and financial feasibility studies, the topic must also pass through the Executive Board and the Board of Directors of the company. The factory has been deactivated since 2020 and, after investments and adaptations to meet regulatory standards, it will be able to start operating again in the first half of 2024.
The event was attended by, in addition to the president of Petrobras and representatives of the company's board of directors, federal deputy Gleisi Hoffmann and federal deputies Zeca Dirceu, Tião Medeiros, and Geraldo Mendes, other state and federal political leaders, as well as union leaders.
According to president Jean Paul Prates, the fertilizer sector is of strategic importance for Petrobras and for the country: “Brazil is a major producer of agricultural commodities, however, it is dependent on fertilizers from abroad. This market has been facing many challenges around the world. Petrobras is interested in investing in the reactivation of ANSA due to the unit's synergy with Repar. In addition to reducing the country's dependence on product imports, with the operation, we will generate jobs and income”.
ANSA has the capacity to process around 1,900 tons per day of urea and 1,300 tons per day of ammonia, used in the production of agricultural fertilizers, in addition to other sectors. The raw material used in the unit is asphalt residue, which can be obtained at the Presidente Getúlio Vargas Refinery (Repar), also located in the city of Araucária (PR).
For the Director of Industrial Processes and Products at Petrobras, William França, Petrobras takes another important step by resuming studies to put ANSA back into operation: “Our decisions are based on careful analyzes of technical and financial feasibility. Since the factory went into hibernation, workers in the surrounding municipalities are suffering from unemployment caused by the lack of opportunities in the region. By investing in the resumption of production at ANSA, we will be demonstrating Petrobras' ability to supply products of strategic value to the country, with full operational and environmental safety, in addition to contributing to regional development”.
REPAR is a reference unit in Petrobras refining
President Jean Paul Prates took advantage of the visit to confirm that Petrobras, with Repar, remains in Paraná. Repar is a reference in innovation and technique, represents 14% of Petrobras' sales and the Araucária complex is the company's second largest in revenue. The production profile is 49% diesel and 27% gasoline. That is, Repar converts almost 80% of its processing into diesel and gasoline.
In addition, Petrobras plans to increase its production capacity for diesel with renewable content (Diesel R) by 146%, after receiving authorization from the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP) to operate another production unit for this fuel in REPAR.
