Petrobras reports that Modec, operator of the FPSO Cidade do Rio de Janeiro, in the Campos Basin, announced on Friday, August 23, the existence of cracks in the ship's hull, after inspection of the vessel’s external tanks, resulting in a leakage of approximately 1.2 cubic meter of residual oil.
The FPSO Cidade do Rio de Janeiro, owned by Modec, has been out of operation since last year and it is in the process of leaving the Espadarte field location, 130 kilometers from the coast. The removal of the 54 embarked people, which began on Friday, was completed this Monday (08/26).
Overflight in the area after the event did not identify oil slick on the sea surface.
After further evaluations, on August 26, an increase in crack length was identified. Petrobras has reported this to the authorities and has been supporting Modec in contingency actions.
