The Manati project, sponsored by Petrobras, carried out this morning (30.06) an operation for the translocation of two manatees to the beach of Peroba, in Icapuí (CE), where the Aclimative Captivity is located - a semi-captive site, managed by the project, 200 meters from the beach. Two animals were transported, “Alva” and “Maceió”, which measure from 2.5 to 2.8 meters and weigh around 350 to 400 kg.

The animals were at the Marine Mammal Rehabilitation Center (CRMM), in Caucaia (CE). The transport, carried out by truck, was done in partnership with the Mounted Police Regiment - Cavalry of the Military Police (RPMON - PM). The journey, a 225 km route, is careful, the truck needs to maintain low speed to ensure the stability and comfort of the animals and, therefore, it was carried out at dawn. Preparations began yesterday, the 29th, and the arrival in Icapuí happened in the early hours of the 30th, around 5 am. The animals were stabilized and transferred to the sea. Manatee is one of the endangered marine species.
