In March, Refinaria Henrique Lage (Revap) marks its 45th anniversary with an interactive exhibition at the Museu Interativo de Ciências (MIC) in São José dos Campos. The opening ceremony will take place on Thursday, March 27, with the participation of Alexandre Coelho Cavalcanti, General Manager of Revap, and the mayor of the city, Anderson Farias. The event is open to the public with free entry and will run until September 27.

The exhibition features interactive panels, models, explanatory videos, and immersive experiences, offering visitors the opportunity to learn about the refining process, Revap's technological evolution, and the challenges for a more sustainable future. This is the first time the refinery is hosting an interactive exhibition, exploring not only Revap's history but also important societal topics such as energy transition and innovation in the refining sector.

According to Alexandre Coelho Cavalcanti, this initiative reinforces the refinery's commitment to education and raising awareness about the energy sector. “Revap has always had a close relationship with São José dos Campos and the Vale do Paraíba region. Holding this exhibition at MIC is a way of celebrating our history with the community, bringing people closer to the world of energy and showcasing how technology and innovation are essential for the future of the refinery and the sector as a whole," he emphasizes.

Other Anniversary Activities

As part of the anniversary celebrations, the Revap Space will be launched, and guided tours will be held at the refinery's facilities.

On March 24, the same day the refinery was inaugurated in 1980, the Revap Space will be introduced. Located in the refinery’s administrative building, it will house a permanent exhibition that covers the arrival of oil, the refining process, Revap’s history, and its key products. This exhibition will be available to employees and students participating in guided visits to the refinery.

From March 29, guided tours will begin, focused on the families of Revap’s employees. Around 600 visitors, spread over five days, will have the opportunity to tour the refinery, visit the laboratory, and engage in technological activities related to Safety, Environment, and Health (SMS), including access to trucks and ambulances used in Revap's day-to-day operations.

Revap's Contribution

For nearly half a century, Revap has contributed to the economic and industrial development of the Vale do Paraíba region. It is one of the country's leading refining hubs, supplying various regions with essential fuels and derivatives for the national economy. Currently, it is responsible for about 30% of São José dos Campos' ICMS (tax on circulation of goods) revenue and provides approximately 75% of the aviation kerosene consumed at Guarulhos International Airport, Brazil's largest airport. Additionally, over the past decades, Revap has modernized its operations to meet the sector's evolving demands, investing in innovation, sustainability, and technology.
