Brazil broke the record for oil and natural gas production in March, with 5.531 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d). The data was released today (4/4) by the ANP in the Monthly Bulletin of Oil and Natural Gas Production. The previous record had been set in February 2026.

Regarding oil, 4.247 million barrels per day (bbl/d) were extracted, a positive variation of 4.6% compared to the previous month and a 17.3% increase compared to the same month in 2025.

Natural gas production in March was 204.11 million cubic meters per day (m³/d). There was a 3.3% growth compared to February and a 23.3% increase compared to March 2025.

Pre-salt

Total production (oil + natural gas) in the pre-salt layer in March was also a record: 4.421 million boe/d, corresponding to 79.9% of Brazilian production. There was a growth of 3.6% compared to the previous month and 19% compared to the same month in 2025.

3.410 million bbl/d of oil and 160.69 million m³/d of natural gas were produced through 184 wells.

Natural Gas Utilization

In March, natural gas utilization was 97.3%. 67.39 million m³/d were made available to the market, and flaring was 5.46 million m³/d. There was a 6.3% decrease in flaring compared to the previous month and 5.4% compared to March 2025.

Origin of Production

During the month, offshore fields produced 98% of the oil and 87.8% of the natural gas. Fields operated by Petrobras, alone or in a consortium with other companies, were responsible for 88.23% of the total produced. Production originated from 6,086 wells, of which 590 were offshore and 5,496 were onshore.

Fields and Facilities

In March, the Búzios field, in the Santos Basin, was the largest oil producer, recording 886.43 thousand bbl/d. The field with the largest natural gas production was Mero, also in the Santos Basin, with 42.06 million m³/d.

The facilities with the highest production were the FPSO Almirante Tamandaré, in the Búzios Field, for oil (186,088 bbl/d); and the FPSO Guanabara, in the Mero field, for gas (12.08 million m³/d).

About the Oil and Gas Production Bulletin

In addition to the traditional publication in .pdf, it is possible to consult the bulletin's data interactively using Business Intelligence (BI) technology. The tool allows the user to change the reference month for the desired information, as well as different period selections for consultation and specific filters for fields, states, and basins.

Variations in production are expected and may occur due to factors such as scheduled shutdowns of production units for maintenance, the start of operation of new wells, well shutdowns for maintenance or cleaning, and the beginning of commissioning of new production units, among others. Such actions are typical of oil and natural gas production and aim for stable and continuous operation, as well as production increases over time.
