The Federation of Industries of Rio de Janeiro (Firjan) presented yesterday (Aug. 18) the Firjan Proposals Agenda for Brazil 4.0, a set of proposals to stimulate economic growth in the country, especially in the state of Rio de Janeiro. It includes 62 proposals of national scope and 41 focused on the state, which can contribute to the planning of public policies at both levels of government. The document will be sent to candidates for the positions of president, and governor from Rio state.

For Firjan, productivity is the key to the progress of industry in the country. "Today, with the fourth industrial revolution, 4.0 Industry needs a 4.0 Brazil, which can only be achieved by increasing productivity."

The Agenda is the result of the performance of the Industrial Policy Working Group, made up of industrialists from various sectors and regions of the state of Rio de Janeiro. 600 businessmen from Rio, who make up the various business and regional councils of the entity, have been heard, before the preparation of the document.

Firjan's vice-president and coordinator of the working group of the Industrial Policy Agenda Luiz Césio Caetano said the evaluation included in the agenda indicates that an increase in productivity can generate a $ 1.04 trillion dollar increase in the Brazilian Gross Domestic Product (GDP) over the next five years, contributing to increasing the GDP forecast to $ 2.821 trillion dollars. If this result is confirmed, the country would move from the 12th to the 8th position in the ranking of the world's largest economies by 2027.

The document points out that Brazil has historically registered low productivity and that, in recent years, the GDP growth was related to factors that will not be repeated in the future, among them, the rapid growth of the working-age population in relation to the country's total population.

The agenda focuses on the increase of productivity as a fundamental factor for the Brazilian economic recovery in the coming years. It has four pillars: business environment, infrastructure, human capital, and state efficiency.
