Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, met with a delegation from the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday, August 8th, in Belém (PA), during the Amazon Summit. The bilateral meeting took place with the Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology of the United Arab Emirates and designated President of COP 28, Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber. Alexandre Silveira emphasized the importance of investments in natural gas for energy transition and Brazil's development.

"It was a very productive meeting. The representatives from the United Arab Emirates showed a great interest in investing in increasing the supply of natural gas and in gas transportation and distribution. They understand that assisting the development of the natural gas industry in Brazil is a strategic input and plays a significant role in energy transition due to its low carbon footprint," stated Minister Alexandre Silveira.

Also present at the meeting was the Minister for International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, Reem Al Ashimy. She had previously met with Minister Alexandre Silveira in Brasília in June, where they signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of renewable energy. According to the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), the memorandum is a milestone in relation to the strategic partnership established between our countries in 2019.

During the meeting, discussions centered around energy transition actions, the importance of the upcoming COP to be held in Brazil, and the role of the oil and gas sector as part of the solution for decarbonization initiatives. The necessary partnerships for the implementation of renewable energy, including low-carbon hydrogen generation, were also highlighted.

Alexandre Silveira emphasized the sector's crucial role in fertilizer production as well. "This is the second time we have received representatives from the United Arab Emirates. For Brazil, it is very important to develop the oil and natural gas sector in conjunction with the fertilizer industry, given Brazil's potential. This can expand food production for our country and the world. We will continue to work on attracting investments, instilling confidence in investors who are now considering natural gas," he affirmed.

According to the minister, the second semester will be decisive, as the National Congress will engage in debates on various legislative projects related to energy transition. "I am personally working alongside the committees in this dialogue process with the legislature. We will promote energy transition in the country together with the committees and lawmakers, positioning Brazil as a global leader in clean and renewable energy production," Alexandre Silveira concluded.
