The ANP Board approved today (11/18) the signing of a Protocol of Intent with the National Institute for Space Research (INPE), an agency linked to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI).

The objective is to foster interaction mechanisms, through formal cooperation between the parties, related to aspects of space and atmospheric sciences, space engineering, meteorology, earth observation through satellite images and climate change.

The main topics covered by the Memorandum of Understanding are:

• The development and enhancement of satellite data acquisition capability to support monitoring of activities in the oil, natural gas and biofuels industry in close to real time;
• The collection, storage and sharing of geo-referenced data for scientific and marine environmental monitoring purposes;
• The development of technologies, processes and products aimed at reducing the emission of greenhouse gases in the activities of the oil, natural gas and biofuels industry.

The Protocol of Intentions is another step towards closer collaboration between the bodies and complying with the priority actions defined in the ANP's Strategic Map, enabling the promotion of safer and more sustainable activities in the oil, natural gas and biofuels industry.
