In 2024, Brazil’s average oil production reached 3.358 million barrels per day, while natural gas production averaged 153 million cubic meters per day approximately 2% higher than in 2023, when output totaled 150 million cubic meters per day. These figures, consolidated by the ANP (National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels), underscore the sector’s strategic importance to the national economy, particularly in generating royalties for producing municipalities many of which have low Human Development Index (HDI) scores.

These and other key topics will be explored at Bahia Oil & Gas Energy (BOGE25), to be held at the Salvador Convention Center from May 28 to 30. The event, which is entirely free of charge, has become a reference on both national and international calendars, reflecting the growing prominence of the oil and gas sector across Brazil’s North and Northeast regions.

According to Nicolás Honorato, organizer of BOGE25, Bahia will host three times as many exhibitors this year compared to the first edition two years ago. “We started with 90 exhibitors. This time, we’ll have nearly 250 exhibitors and over 300 brands represented in the trade fair,” he notes. “We’re also seeing increased participation from companies based in other Brazilian states and abroad, including seven international delegations,” he adds.

The program will feature two plenary sessions, one focused on oil and another on gas, in addition to an academic congress, technical sessions, an ESG Arena, Innovation Arena, business matchmaking roundtable, and technical site visits.

In terms of financial impact, expectations are high: the Business Roundtable alone is projected to generate R$400 million in the short term, not to mention additional commercial agreements expected as suppliers and clients across the value chain connect throughout the fair.

A Diversified Market

The oil and gas industry is both diversified and dynamic, covering operations from onshore and offshore exploration and production to refining and transportation. The sector includes a wide range of operators, and exploration activity is on the rise, both on land and offshore, with particularly significant projects underway in Sergipe, Rio Grande do Norte, and other states along Brazil’s equatorial margin.

Nicolás also highlights developments in refining, with independent refineries entering the market and new gas pipeline projects under construction. “In short, a high volume of activity is expected in the coming years.”

BOGE25 will spotlight these emerging opportunities, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises, product manufacturers, and service providers. Industry professionals, including technicians and engineers, will also find a broad range of career development and networking opportunities throughout the event.
