The Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy on Thursday allowed two wind power projects with a combined capacity of 24.3 MW to join the national incentive regime for infrastructure development (REIDI).

Both plants are sited near the city of Igapora, Bahia state.

One of them -- EOL Caliandra, comprises two 2.7-MW turbines, or 5.4 MW in total. It is estimated to cost BRL 23.1 million (USD 7.2m/EUR 6.7m) to build.

The second wind farm, named EOL Alcacuz, will have seven turbines of 2.7 MW each for a total installed capacity of 18.9 MW. The investment here has been estimated at BRL 83.9 million.

Construction of EOL Caliandra began today while EOL Alcacuz works will commence in November 25, 2015. The plants are schedule to be complete in December, 2016.

REIDI, launched in 2007, grants tax incentives to companies investing in infrastructure projects within the transport, energy, sanitation and irrigation sectors.
