Brazil’s ambassador to China, Marcos Caramuru, called the bilateral relationship between Brazil and China “dynamic” and considered that trade and investment between the two countries “are on the rise.”

Speaking to Agência Brasil, the Brazilian diplomat recalled that “In the first four months of the year, the surplus with China accounted for more than 40% of Brazil’s total trade surplus. We are one of the few countries that have a surplus with China.”

With a consumer market of more than 1.3 billion people, China will have an increasing need for Brazilian products, as, according to the ambassador, the living conditions of the Chinese population are improving.

Exports from Brazil to the Chinese market are focused on meat, grains, iron ore, pulp and cellulose.

“Last year, Brazil exported 80% of all chicken imported by China and was the largest exporter of beef. It also exported about 60% of the soy imported by China,” he said.

Since 2009, China has been Brazil’s main trading partner. According to the Brazilian Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services, trade between the two countries in 2016 totalled US$58.49 billion.

Exports from Brazil to China in 2016 totalled US$35.13 billion.
