Brazil's capacity increased from 2.1GW to 3.7GW in the first six months of the year, a 72% rise. Of this, 57.3% corresponds to the capacity marketed in regulated government auctions, 25.7% came from projects under the alternative sources of energy incentive programme (Proinfa) and 17% originated from enterprises with sales in the free trade environment (ACL).

The total generation from wind farms in the month of July was 1,594MW, the largest recorded in the period under analysis.

When comparing the total monthly generation in 2014 (up to July) with the same period last year, there was a 58.4% growth compared with January.

The north-east, with 116 wind farm in operation, showed the largest increase in installed capacity in the year so far, an increase of 99%. The analysis of the CCEE includes the start of operation of Renova Energy's Alto Sertão wind farm in the Caetité region in Bahia state.

The region accounts for 77% of the total capacity of wind farms in the country, being the highlight by its production, representing 81.3% of the wind power generated in the National Integrated System (SIN) in July.

The share of energy generated in the south was 18.3% (292 MW), while the south-east (5MW) accounted for 0.3%.

According to the report, 17 new projects had been added this year by July, bringing the total number of wind farms connected to the National Interconnected System (SIN) to 151. The expansion was due mainly to the entry of projects the second reserve energy second and the 12th new energy auction.
