Brazil has just moved up a position in the world ranking of the ten countries that generated the most jobs in the world in photovoltaic solar energy in the year 2020, according to a report recently released by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). Taking the seventh place, the country was ahead of historical leaders in the sector, such as Germany and the United Kingdom.

For the CEO of the Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy (ABSOLAR), Rodrigo Sauaia, Brazil is a solar nation by nature, with privileged conditions to become a world leader in the sector. “Photovoltaic solar energy will play an increasingly strategic role in achieving the goals of socioeconomic and sustainable development in Brazil and other countries. It will greatly help in the recovery of the economy, being the renewable source that generates the most jobs on the planet”, he comments.

According to the IRENA report, the renewable energy sector generated 12 million jobs in the world in 2020, with the majority participation of the photovoltaic solar source, responsible for more than 3.9 million jobs, representing a third of the total.

Ronaldo Koloszuk, chairman of the Board of Directors of ABSOLAR, emphasizes that the growth of solar energy brings quality jobs in all regions of Brazil, reducing the electricity bill and guaranteeing income for the population. "Therefore, at this time of high unemployment, low level of hydroelectric reservoirs, red flags and the extra 'water scarcity' tariff being charged on the electricity bill, it is essential to encourage the advancement of clean, competitive and leading solar energy in generation of renewable jobs in the world”, he says.

Solar Jobs in Brazil in 2021

According to a preliminary survey by the Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy (ABSOLAR), Brazil registered, from 2012 until the end of September this year, the creation of around 330,000 jobs by the solar sector. According to the organization, the photovoltaic source has already brought to the country more than BRL 57 billion in new investments and BRL 15.1 billion in collections to public coffers, as well as preventing the emission of more than 12.4 million tons of CO2 in electricity generation.
