Technology is not just incorporated into the name of TN Petróleo: it is as much in our DNA as it is in the Brazilian oil and gas industry. And this has been reiterated in each milestone, broken paradigm, challenge overcome by our industry, which has been continuously promoting innovation in the sector.
This is what led us to produce the cover story of TN 142 - Technology 'reinvents' the oil and gas industry and also the article Brazilian technology on the innovation podium, highlighting the international recognition of its solutions created in the country, which were finalists for the World oil Awards, the highest award in the upstream sector: the Wellrobot®/TTilt, developed by ouronova and PUC-Rio, and the Metallic Tuned Water Injection (EOR method for carbonate rocks), created by researchers from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp).
Both technologies were developed in partnership with Repsol Sinopec Brasil, with resources from the research, development and innovation (RD&I) clause of the concession contracts of the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP).
To be among the finalists of this award, competing with world-class corporations, is a great victory for those who dare to innovate in a country where the volume of resources that the Brazilian State has directed to PDI decreases every year, as shown in TN 142 ( Check out the magazine here https://tnpetroleo.com.br/revistas/issu/2022-setembro-outubro/).
It is an achievement of Brazilian inventiveness, whether in deeptech and startups, or in universities and Science and Technology Institutions (ICTs), and which has been stimulated by the oil and gas industry, which directed more than R$3 billion in 2021, for research, development and innovation.
Showing the Brazilian capacity to innovate has been one of TN Petróleo's commitments, which has given space to companies and researchers to share with our readers the knowledge and innovation that have been generated in this country by the oil and gas sector.

Industry has been one of the factors that allowed the country to regain some positions in the 2022 Global Innovation Index (IGI), released at the end of September by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in partnership with the National Confederation. of Industry (CNI).

Brazil was in 54th place among 132 countries, advancing from the 57% position obtained in the previous year – but still far from the 47th place achieved in 2011; CNI assesses that investments in the area have fallen
In the ranking of “innovation inputs”, the country dropped two positions (from 56th in 2021 to 58th in 2022). The improvement in the overall ranking was achieved with Brazil advancing in six positions in “innovation results” – from 59th in 2021 to 53rd in 2022. “This means that, in relation to investments in innovation, Brazil has worsened. However, it is as if the agents of the Brazilian ecosystem had done more with less and obtained better results in innovation, despite the drop in inputs/investment”, evaluated the Director of Innovation at CNI, Gianna Sagazio.
The nomination for the World Oil Awards shows that this is what the oil and gas production chain has been doing: creating more effective and efficient innovations.
