The importance of guaranteeing the transport and flow of products capable of ensuring the supply of essential items, such as food and products used in the cleaning of private and public spaces, and water treatment, such as chlorine, which has been successively addressed by the Brazilian authorities , like Minister Luiz Henrique Mandetta.

It is within this perspective that Unipar, one of the leading chemical industries in the production of chlorine, soda, chlorine derivatives and PVC in South America, has prepared and implemented a series of actions to face the pandemic that is spreading all over the world and starts and take new contours in Brazil.

The chlorine and sodium hypochlorite produced by the company, for example, are used in the treatment of water, sewage, effluents and disinfection. Caustic soda, for the production of soap and detergents for general hygiene, and also in the production of food. PVC, on the other hand, for the production of blood and serum bags, equipment and catheters, medication blisters and packaging for food, cleaning and personal hygiene.

To guarantee the supply of inputs with such essential purposes, Unipar indicates that initiatives already underway were established to keep the factories operating at a normal pace, similar to that practiced before the effects of the Coronavirus, as detailed by the company's CEO, Mauricio Russomanno.

"We set up a crisis committee at Unipar, responsible for communicating, integrating and defining the next steps. This group is formed by managers and representatives from all areas, who report directly to the company's executive board, and frequently discuss all actions that must be performed in that special operating regime ".

In addition, the CEO of Unipar points out that technical actions have been defined to intensify the health security of all cargo entering and leaving the company's three plants, installed in the cities of Cubatão (SP) and Santo André (SP), in the Brazil, and Bahía Blanca, in Argentina, including with the help of technology.

For this, a contingency plan was developed with the implantation of machines and printing of QR Code to retire the use of pens during the identification of suppliers at the reception of the factories, in addition to constant monitoring of the entire transport of volumes. "We also implemented procedures such as the temperature measurement of all people who access the factory, special inspections of drivers' entry with loads on the sites, for import and export operations of inputs and we projected production stocks of PVC, soda, chlorine and chlorine ", explains Russomano. The company also started to prioritize the delivery of inputs, always focusing on health operations, which are more urgent in the midst of a serious public health situation.

For the businessman, controller and chairman of the Board of Directors of Unipar, Frank Geyer, the measures taken by the company must be unanimous in the sector to minimize the impact of this pandemic in the national territory as much as possible. "We understand that this may be the most efficient way to contribute to avoiding a social, economic and health collapse in Brazil," he says.
