New investments in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul by China Three Gorges Brasil Energia Ltda. were discussed Monday at a meeting in the government headquarters in the city of Campo Grande, the Brazilian press reported.

Governor Reinaldo Azambuja was visited by the president, Yinsheng Li and Vice President João Meirelles of the Brazilian subsidiary of China Three Gorges Group, which on 1 July will take control of the Jupiá and Solteira hydroelectric dams.

In November 2015 the Chinese group was granted a concession for the operation of the two hydropower plants, and on signing the contract with the Ministry of Mines and Energy established the tax domicile of the Jupiá and Ilha Solteira dams in the municipalities of Três Lagoas and Selvíria, respectively, both in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul.

The CTG group has operated in the Brazilian energy market for just two years and is now the largest producer of hydroelectricity, with about 60,000 megawatts in operation, about half of all of Brazil’s electrical system, and also 30,000 megawatts under construction.

During the Campo Grande meeting investment projects in solar energy, fish farming projects and navigation projects in reservoirs of hydroelectric plants were presented to the leaders of China Three Gorges Brasil Energia Ltda.
