Energy mergers and acquisitions remained stable in 2019, KPMG says

The number of mergers and acquisitions in the energy companies sector remained stable in 2019 compared to the previous year. With a short decrease of four operations in the results registered in 2018 (55), the segment closed with 51 deals in the last year. The informations are from a KPMG report made with 43 sectors of the Brazilian economy.

 

Among the deals closed in 2019, 27 were domestic and 16 of CB1 type, carried out by foreign companies that acquired a Brazilians business situated in Brazil. Four CB4 category operations were also carried out (foreign companies acquiring foreign enterprise located in Brazil); three CB2 type, Brazilian companies acquiring foreign enterprise situated abroad; and one in the CB5 category, in which foreign companies acquire Brazilians business located abroad.

 

Overall ranking 

According to the survey made in 2019, the internet sector maintained its leadership, jumping from 169 operations in 2018 to 293 in 2019, an increase of 73%, followed by the areas of information technology (158), hospitals and clinical analysis laboratories (87), real estate (77), other sectors (72), food, beverages and tobacco (52) and energy companies (51).
