The National Consumer Price Index (IPCA), the official inflation rate in the country, closed in 2017 with an accumulated increase of 2.95%, a result 3.34 percentage points lower to 6.29% in 2016. It is the lowest number since the rate of 1998 when it was 1.65%.
The data were released today (10), in Rio de Janeiro, by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and indicate that, in December, the IPCA closed at 0.44%, with 0.16 percentage points above the result of November (0.28%). This was the highest monthly change in 2017. In 2016, the IPCA in December reached 0.3%.
