The total royalties paid by Itaipu, Brazil and Paraguay, will reach $ 9 billion this April. Of this amount, about $ 4.6 billion went to Brazil and $ 4.4 billion for Paraguay. Royalties are paid since 1985, because the hydraulic exploitation of the Paraná River.

 

The amounts payable arising mainly from energy production from the previous month. The transfer is made when two months after the "triggering event", ie, the payment of April, for example, refers to the energy generated by the plant in February. The higher the generation, the higher the payment amount.
In Brazil, the municipal districts that had submerged areas and the state government of Parana are the biggest beneficiaries.
