Norway's Kongsberg Maritime bagged contracts, valued at $53.3 million (NOK 330 million), to provide its "Full Picture" solution to Chinese and South Korean shipbuilders for 13 advanced newbuild offshore vessels.

Chinese shipyards that awarded the contracts to Kongsberg included Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Offshore Co. (DSIC), CIMC Raffles (CIMC), Cosco Shipyard (COSCO) and Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard (HDZ), while Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) and Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) were the South Korean shipbuilders that have selected the Norwegian firm's "Full Picture" technology.

Under the contract, Kongsberg Maritime will provide sophisticated integrated Dynamic Positioning (DP), Automation, Navigation and Hydroacoustic positioning, while riser management solutions will be supplied by sister company Kongsberg Oil & Gas Technologies. The delivery is for four advanced offshore drilling units, two advanced accommodation units, six liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessels and one LNG floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) with Integrated Automation System.

One of the contracts with DSIC is for an advanced semisubmersible drilling rig of Agility Group A5000 design which is being built for China Oilfield Services Limited (COSL).

"These new contracts for 2014 build on an excellent 2013 performance in China and Korea, where Kongsberg was chosen for numerous advanced vessel newbuildings by major yards and owners. We truly appreciate the confidence shown by both the shipyards and the vessel owners when selecting Kongsberg as a partner for key technology on these prestigious projects," Morten Stanger, regional manager Offshore Asia, Kongsberg Maritime said in the press release.
