EnerGeo Alliance attended ROG.e, one of the largest events in the energy industry, held in Rio de Janeiro. During the event, Nikki Martin (photo) led a
Strategic Talk with Kristian Johansen, CEO of TGS, discussing investment conditions and the policies needed to turn Brazil's geological potential into investment opportunities.
"Brazil has significant potential for new exploration activities, from recent initiatives in the Equatorial Margin to opportunities identified in the Pelotas Basin. As global energy demand continues to grow — and the country's pre-salt fields' production tends to stabilize over time — the continuity of exploration activities will be essential to replenish reserves, sustain domestic production, and support Brazil's long-term economic competitiveness.
High-quality geoscience data is fundamental to this effort. It helps companies better understand resource potential, reduce risks, and make bett
er-informed investment decisions. But favorable geology and reliable data must be accompanied by an equally solid regulatory environment.
Brazil brings together many of the elements needed for this, including world-class geology, extensive offshore operations expertise, and an already established supply chain. The opportunity now is to strengthen licensing processes throughout the exploration cycle, with greater stability, transparency, and predictability, as well as faster, evidence-based decisions.
By improving regulatory processes without compromising rigorous environmental standards, Brazil can turn its geological potential into new exploration investments and new sources of energy. Ongoing collaboration between industry, regulators, and other stakeholders will be key to enabling these opportunities responsibly."
