In September 2026, Brazil produced 6.120 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) of oil and natural gas, setting a new record. The previous record was set in August, when production surpassed the 6-million-boe/d mark for the first time. The data were released today (November 3) by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) in its Monthly Oil and Natural Gas Production Bulletin.

Oil production reached 4.711 million barrels per day (bbl/d), up 2.1% from the previous month and 20.3% compared with September 2025.

Natural gas production in September was 223.98 million cubic metres per day (m³/d), up 1.6% from August and 17.5% compared with September 2025.

Pre-salt

Total pre-salt production (oil + natural gas) also reached a record in September, at 5.100 million boe/d, accounting for 83.3% of Brazil’s total production. Output increased 2.9% from the previous month and 23.1% compared with the same month in 2025.

A total of 3.945 million bbl/d of oil and 183.66 million m³/d of natural gas were produced from 205 wells.

Natural gas utilization

In September, the natural gas utilization rate was 98.2%. A total of 66.37 million m³/d was supplied to the market, while 4.14 million m³/d was flared. Flaring decreased by 0.4% compared with the previous month and increased by 1.1% compared with September 2025.

Production sources

During the month, offshore fields accounted for 98.1% of oil production and 89% of natural gas production. Fields operated by Petrobras, either alone or in partnership with other companies, accounted for 87.02% of total output. Production came from 6,759 wells: 604 offshore and 6,155 onshore.

Fields and installations

In September, the Búzios field in the Santos Basin pre-salt was Brazil’s largest oil producer, with 1.190 million bbl/d. It was also the country’s largest natural gas producer, with 49.99 million m³/d.

The installations with the highest production were the Almirante Tamandaré FPSO, in the Búzios field, for oil (259,514 bbl/d), and the Sepetiba FPSO, in the Mero field, for natural gas (13.55 million m³/d).

About the Oil and Natural Gas Production Bulletin

In addition to the traditional PDF publication, the bulletin’s data can be explored interactively using business intelligence (BI) technology. The tool allows users to select the reference month, choose different periods for consultation, and apply filters for specific fields, states and basins.

Production fluctuations are expected and may result from factors such as scheduled shutdowns of production units for maintenance, wells starting production, wells being shut in for maintenance or cleaning, and the commissioning of new production units, among others. These are typical activities in oil and natural gas production. They help ensure stable, continuous operations and support production growth over time.
