The oil and gas market will inaugurate a new cycle of growth in the state of Rio in the coming years, according to projections based on data from the Rio 2021 Oil Yearbook, released this week by the Federation of Industries of Rio de Janeiro (Firjan) . "This new cycle of oil recovery is a unique opportunity that the state has to seize tooth and nail to achieve this advance", said Bruno Freitas (photo), president of the Oil, Gas and Naval Council of Firjan and Brazil country director of SBM Offshore.

During the Federation's Websérie Óleo, Gás e Naval on August 25, which marked the second day of the publication's launch, Freitas highlighted that the Yearbook shows the total investment, including those of the naval hub. “Each platform brings a contract of up to 26 years and benefits for the entire support chain. In the Búzios Field alone, 12 FPSO-type platforms are planned. It's an exponential growth”.

Vinícius Farah, Rio's State Secretary for Economic Development, took advantage of the event to announce the creation of the Superintendence of the Economy of the Sea, after requests from Firjan for the enhancement of this chain. He also commented on this new cycle: “It is impressive the number of national and international companies that come to us every day interested in investing in the oil and gas market. We are modeling legislation and we are going to use tools to streamline the processes," he said

In line with the idea, state deputy Luiz Paulo said he presented a bill, together with deputy Célia Jordão, providing for the creation of a program to encourage the economy of the sea. Luiz Paulo added that he defends this new oil cycle from a new perspective. "New industries that generate employment and income here, and that the billions are not on platforms abroad, but in our naval industry, one of the development poles of the state".

Karine Fragoso, Firjan's Oil, Gas and Naval Manager, highlighted other significant data: “More than 80% of the country's offshore oil production is in the state. And of the ten platforms that add the most production, nine are in Rio de Janeiro waters”. The 6th edition of the Yearbook periodically updates dynamic data and an interactive map with oil activities in the state, among other items.

Federal deputy Paulo Ganime thanked Firjan for supporting the agendas of the oil production chain. “For the Gas Law, the federation provided elements and technical information. Regarding the training of qualified labor, not only in O&G, but also in the area of innovation, the S System has contributed a lot”.
